Stealth-based zombie extraction shooter Last Remains is set to get another new alpha test on August 2nd at 10 AM UTC that the community can participate in for free and help provide feedback on the latest updates while earning skins that can be minted into NFTs.
Whatâs New in This Playtest?
This upcoming playtest adds a couple of new features and optimizations. Among them is the addition of climbable ladders, which should give players a new way to reach certain areas as well as make previously unreachable spots now accessible. Boarding the helicopter is now more dangerous than ever before as you will now drop if someone or something ends up hitting you, making each match more intense to the very end. To help you better react in dangerous situations, the developers have now introduced an in-game quick switch button for weapons to make it easier to equip a loaded weapon faster. You can also look forward to the ability to toggle an auto-lock camera during combat on and off, which may come in handy when using a melee weapon. There should now be a game lobby leaderboard, as well as an in-game results screen to sum up your performance. As for optimizations, it is said that attack effects, the parkour system, vehicle street placement, and weapon throwing logic have been improved, including sound effects for various zombies.
Outside the game itself, the team has announced a change to how playtests are scheduled. From now on, playtests will be hosted monthly instead of every two weeks, running for 24 hours on Fridays. That being said, while the time for the upcoming playtest has been revealed, itâs been mentioned in the gameâs official Discord server that it could end up slightly changing if any issue appears.
What Is Last Remains?
Last Remains is a zombie battle royale that encourages stealth-based gameplay as you attempt to extract to safety from both the infected and other players. Each match takes place in a huge modern world overrun by zombies, with 30+ players parkouring and fighting to survive in a mostly PvE-focused environment, but since only 3 survivors can extract from the area via a helicopter arriving 30-40 minutes later at a rescue point, youâll want to be ready for some PvP action as well. And speaking of zombies, weâre not just talking about the regular humanoid infected types here â you may also run into huge abominations simply called Bosses, and if youâre not properly equipped, well, good luck escaping. Defeating them though could get you some secret rewards.
Surviving in this Web3 battle royale isnât just about finding weapons and armor while avoiding hordes of zombies, but also about scavenging for resources such as food and water across different buildings to keep your hunger and thirst meters in check, so there's plenty of risk-taking to do as you never know what awaits around the next corner.
The third-person stealth game also features mintable NFTs that players have a chance of finding in each match. These include skins that seem to not only have a cosmetic purpose but also bring a strategic advantage and disadvantage. In the future, it could be possible to find other types of items to mint into NFTs on Polygon using a bridge that lets you move items from your Epic Games account to your wallet.
Itâs important to emphasize that earning NFTs for free is only possible during these public alpha tests. In the future, youâll need to have an NFT character to earn tradable assets. More on this below, but overall, aside from paying gas fees, you may want to take advantage of these playtests while theyâre still available if you want to earn NFTs for free.
Developer Earn Alliance has been hosting many public alpha playtesting sessions this year, where players have a limited timeframe to jump in and try out an early version of the game on the Epic Games Store while helping provide constructive feedback and suggestions so that the studio can eventually release a quality Web3 gaming experience. Whenever the full launch does arrive, anyone will be able to enjoy the free to play title by downloading it through the Fortnite creatorâs store on Windows PCs. According to the litepaper, a Mac version will also be available, and there also seem to be plans to launch on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation as well.
How to Play and Earn on Official Launch
On launch, players should be able to create guilds and compete in solo and guild-based leaderboards for rewards, with 50% of the gameâs revenue said to be distributed back to player reward pools. There will be a limited number of free to play characters and they wonât allow you to earn tradable assets, as each item found with a F2P character will be soulbound.
Anyone who wants to play and earn will need to get a Premium Character to progress through a seasonal 60-day battle pass. You will need to buy a $20 Character Loot Box to get a playable Premium Character NFT. This Premium Character will allow players to earn premium in-game items through the battle pass, and these earned items can be sold on the marketplace only during the duration of the battle pass. When that seasonâs battle pass is over, all items and Premium Characters become soulbound but still usable in a mini game called Search & Rescue. Items however come in different rarities and have durability points. When an item runs out of these points, it breaks into shards which can be used to buy item loot boxes. By having NFT characters that you can earn with in the main game for only one season and limiting the number of uses an equipment item NFT has before it breaks, the developers aim to create a non-inflationary and sustainable Web3 game economy, and it will be interesting to see how well this economic system will work once the game fully goes live.
Search & Rescue is a mobile staking game in which you stake characters and skins to earn NFTs and the upcoming Zombie Token ($ZT), for which no TGE date is yet available. With a 1 billion total token supply, the token will be used for governance voting, for getting discounts on marketplace fees and fees on other on-chain features, among other use cases. Tokenomics are still subject to change, but you can check out whatâs proposed in this section of the litepaper.
